The dish/what's new in city dining

Flipside Café and Grill

Our lunch at Flipside Café and Grill in Grafton met our expectations, i.e. "grill." There’s no false advertising at Flipside. We loved the burgers, not frozen prepackaged perfect round hockey pucks, but instead real patties, hand-formed, char-grilled and prepared medium well.

The Black and Blue Burger came with a big lump of creamy melting cheese and the Shroom and Swiss Burger came smothered with mushrooms, caramelized onions and melting baby swiss. For another buck, replace any burger with a seasoned turkey burger or a grilled chicken breast. Everything comes with chips, fries, fruit or sweet potato fries.

Since the restaurant’s a spin off from the original Grafton Family Restaurant, the owners named it Flipside. Like the original, it’s family friendly. In fact, we saw several children and their grandparents dining together during a weekday lunch hour.

Breakfast selections include omelettes, Skillet Sensations, Belgium waffles, pancakes, French toast, a freshly baked cinnamon roll and more. The restaurant also offers homemade soup, massive salads, wraps, sandwiches and melts. For evening diners, there’s char-grill filets, New York strips, shrimp, rib-eyes and pork chops.

There’s more. Six dessert choices and a variety of coffee drinks round out the extensive menu. A table menu lists beer and wine selections, and since we’re in Wisconsin, they serve the Friday Flipside Fish Market.

This is a classic family restaurant; there’s something for everyone. -Carrie Taylor-Carlson
