Place to satisfy your caffeine craving:

Milwaukee Street Traders

Whatever you call your early morning jumpstart, Delafield’s Milwaukee Street Traders is the place to satisfy that need for liquid speed.

The cafe, located at 523 Milwaukee St., has been open since January, serves up cups of hot and cold caffeine under two labels, Milwaukee Street Traders and Quail, the latter being the owner’s last name. Mochas and lattes top the list of most requested beverages.

“If the weather is on the chilly side, customers seem to like the mocha topped with a little of the whipped cream,” says Harold Ziffren, the store’s manager.

The brainchild of Jay Quail, a former vice president of equity trading for Robert W. Baird, Milwaukee Street Traders is a dream come true. But it almost didn’t happen. When Quail had a heart attack, he recruited his friend Ziffren to come back from Hawaii and help him get the business up and running.

Looking for something a little more substantial to go with that steaming cup of liquid energy? Milwaukee Street Traders sells pizza and sandwiches.

Craving a sweeter taste? Try some gelato or a smoothie.

The building’s interior almost begs one to sit, linger and savor, if only to look at all of the antiques and paintings that are part of the decor. The adjacent room, called the 521 Club, is available for private meetings, wedding receptions and other events.
