Street Traders Whatever
you call your early morning jumpstart, Delafield’s Milwaukee Street
Traders is the place to satisfy that need for liquid speed. The
cafe, located at 523 Milwaukee St., has been open since January, serves up
cups of hot and cold caffeine under two labels, Milwaukee Street Traders
and Quail, the latter being the owner’s last name. Mochas and lattes top
the list of most requested “If
the weather is on the chilly side, customers seem to like the mocha topped
with a little of the whipped cream,” says Harold Ziffren, the store’s
manager. The
brainchild of Jay Quail, a former vice president of equity trading for
Robert W. Baird, Milwaukee Street Traders is a dream come true. But it
almost didn’t happen. When Quail had a heart attack, he recruited his
friend Ziffren to come back from Hawaii and help him get the business up

for something a little more substantial to go with that steaming cup of
liquid energy? Milwaukee Street Traders sells pizza and sandwiches. Craving
a sweeter taste? Try some gelato or a smoothie. The
building’s interior almost begs one to sit, linger and savor, if only to
look at all of the antiques and paintings that are part of the decor. The
adjacent room, called the 521 Club, is available for private meetings,
wedding receptions and other events. |
