Place to rub elbows with famous people:

The Pfister Hotel

Ask John Williams, general manager of The Pfister, why the Milwaukee hotel is the best place to spot celebrities and he’ll tell you, “That’s simple. Lots of them stay here.”

And the reason they choose the 307-room Pfister, built in 1893, is because it features old-world hospitality, luxury accommodations and a reputation that can’t be beat; the hotel at 424 E. Wisconsin Ave. has received the AAA Four Diamond Award for 28 consecutive years, he says.

“It’s a very high-profile hotel,” Williams says. “We offer a very high level of service.

“It’s just a great old hotel. It’s been preserved pretty well, pretty true to form. It’s got rich character and great lines.”

Additionally, Blu, the hotel’s sophisticated martini bar, and Celia, its highly acclaimed restaurant, are a draw.

But don’t ask Williams just which celebs stay there.

“We usually don’t talk too much about that,” he says. “We tend to not talk about our customers publicly. It’s the surest route to losing them.”

Yet, he says, “almost on any given day,” someone famous will walk through The Pfister’s doors.

“It’s no secret that the president was here,” he says. “We host most baseball teams and most basketball teams. There’s always somebody here because there’s so much entertainment in Milwaukee.”
