Love your pup like a member of the family? Go above and beyond for
your top dog at local shops that cater to pampered pets.
A chic boutique for VIPs (Very Important Pets), Metropawlis Pet
Boutique & Bakery in Milwaukee’s Historic Third Ward offers
high-end accessories, grooming products, toys and pet strollers. Owner
Geri Ray recommends dog beer (beef flavor with vitamins and
glucosamine) on hot summer days with a Yappy Meal (fries and a
hamburger/hot dog) baked fresh by the on-site Three Amigos Pet Bakery.
Healthy dining options for your pooch are found at The Natural Pet
in Bay View. "People are finally learning how to keep their
animals healthy for their whole lives," says owner Kim Hecker,
whose retriever, Murphy, lived 14 1/2 years with holistic treatment.
Her premixed raw food features meat, veggies, bones, fruit, vitamins
and supplements.
Organic treats are available at Pewaukee’s Petlicious Dog Biscuit
Bakery and Pet Spa. Fresh-ground peanuts sweeten muddy paws, cannoli,
truffles and dog bones. Sip Stone Creek Coffee and offer Fido doggy
biscotti during Thor’s Yappy Hour, social time for old and new
friends. For special days, order a custom cake and ice cream. The
other half of Dave and Karen Krause’s shop is a pet spa with
grooming by appointment or self-service dog washes.
Because not everyone can care for pets themselves, owner Helena
Buettner of Madra Professional Pet Styling offers her 13 years of
experience. She uses all-natural botanical products and a Whirlpool
bathing system for spa packages that include breath freshening,
peppermint pawdicures and blueberry facials. Mini grooming focuses on
nail trims, ear cleaning and breed standard or custom trims.
Autumglo Pet Boutique and Spa in Cedarburg also offers upscale
grooming. Co-owner Stephanie Kirmse provides massages, nail painting,
facials and bubble baths for improved coat, skin and well-being. The
retail store sells decorated pies and cakes, clothes for dogs and
owners, collars and bedding. "We’re here for pets, to make
their lives more enjoyable," Kirmse says.
