Pool party

When summer heats up, there’s nothing like a refreshing swim to cool off. It’s a great form of exercise, too. Whether you prefer a pool or a sandy beach, swimming is an activity that appeals to everyone — and it can be done alone, or with friends and family. Metropolitan Milwaukee has a great variety of unique places to indulge your love of the water throughout this long, hot summer. Here is a sampling:

Party On
Hy and Richard Smith’s
JCC Water Park

Imagine the fun of a water park for your child’s next birthday party — without a trip to the Dells. Find slides, playground, dive boards, and more. The Jewish Community Center in Mequon offers a fun and playful environment for all ages, with a variety of amenities. Use of the Water Park is exclusive to JCC members, but guests are welcome. For more information, call (262) 242-6556. www.jccmilwaukee.org.

Take a Dive
Lannon Quarry

Grab your snorkel and flippers! Lannon Quarry in Menomonee Park, Menomonee Falls, is a former stone quarry that now serves as a 16-acre lake considered an excellent dive site, with depths to 55 feet and a series of flat ledges and walls to explore. Divers must purchase a permit from the Waukesha County Parks. Open sunrise to sundown Memorial Day through Labor Day. (262) 548-7801. www.waukeshacounty.gov

You Salty Dog!
Elite Sports Clubs

Love the ocean? Close your eyes and imagine you’re there when you enjoy saltwater swimming at Elite Sports Clubs in Brookfield and Mequon. Saltwater pools eliminate the use of harmful chemicals and are kinder to the skin, hair and swimsuits. Elite features 25-yard indoor and outdoor pools with lap lanes at both locations. Swimming and aquatic activities are free to members. (262) 241-4250 or (262) 786-4330. http://eliteclubs.com

Make Some Waves
Cedarburg Community Pool

Think you have to go to a theater to see a movie? Not! Watch "Movies at the Pool" in your bathing suit this summer at Cedarburg Community Pool. Of course, the main attraction is aquatic activities for family, children and adults — including flume slide, 50-meter pool, zero- depth pool, diving boards, spray feature, and those geysers! Open weekdays 4-8, Saturday 10-8 and Sunday 12-7. Season passes available. (262) 375-7665. www.ci.cedarburg.wi.us

Pamper Yourself
The Legend at Brandybrook

Members of The Legend at Brandybrook in Wales and their guests can play a round of golf on the 7,000 yard 18-hole championship golf course and then cool off at one of the fabulous pools. The club features a 5,500-square-foot replica pool as well as a zero-grade entry pool with water features and a junior Olympic pool. What more could a swimmer (or golfer) want? Get membership details at (262) 968-9717. www.thelegendclubs.com
