Stylist Laurel Z sought inspiration from the fall 2015 runway collections for M’s annual fall fashion editorial, incorporating sought-after trends like tartan prints, textured layers, glitzy accessories, pleating variations and a newfound affinity for gloves over sleeves. Combine these coveted fashions with an authentic bagpiper and the picturesque estate setting that is Riverbend and it’s as if we’re transported straight to the Scottish countryside.

This fall’s fashion editorial was shot at Riverbend, an exclusive, members-only club located in Kohler, Wis. Once home to state Gov. Walter J. Kohler Sr., the property has a rich history. Kohler commission-ed Milwaukee-based architect Richard Philipp and Olmsted Brothers (the landscape design firm behind Central Park in New York City) to design and build the estate, and he and his wife, Charlotte, moved into the home upon its completion in 1923. The National Trust for Historic Preservation later acquired the estate from Kohler’s descendents, and in 1985, The Kohler Co. purchased Riverbend from the trust. After sitting empty for 15 years, the home underwent a major remodeling and expansion project in 2000, opening as the private membership club it is today in 2001. "A hot trend for fall 2015 is tartan and plaid, so for this fashion story we went all out with a Scottish theme, complete with a traditional bagpiper. I chose pieces with a heavy focus on warm fall colors and plenty of textured fabrics — I wanted the reader to feel a sense of glamorous coziness well-suited for this incredible location. Furs, hats, umbrellas and wellies were all perfect accents to bring these looks together and round out the story."
