Insider’s Tip:

Together with its New York-based partner, André Furs & Fine Outerwear can resize and reshape any type of fur-based garment. “To completely ‘renew’ an old piece, we take an old coat apart and actually lay out a new pattern,” says co-owner Peg O’Malley.

The studio’s remodeling program is an appealing option for those hoping to recycle existing garments — many of which are family heirlooms. “Fur is renewable and compostable. Most of the fabrics used in outerwear now are not,” explains O’Malley. “Much time and energy went into the construction of an old fur, and to see it go to waste is sad. The quality and warmth of a fur coat is unsurpassed, and they can be handed down and remade for generations.”
