Sometimes, you just have to treat yourself – or one of your loved ones. And if you don’t feel like baking – and really, in the summer, who wants to heat up the house with the oven? – here are some sweet places to visit:

Confetti Cookies and Breads, Batches:

It doesn’t matter what you choose here, it’s going to be sweet and delicious. But there’s just something about the confetti cookies. They’re fun, they’re whimsical and they’re perfect for dunking into a cup of coffee or milk. If you’re hankering for something more grown-up, try any one of their featured breads, like banana chocolate or lemon blueberry. Some of the breads are even gluten-free! www.batchesmke.com

Blueberry Scones and Cinnamon Rolls, Blooming Lotus Bakery:

Speaking of gluten-free, everything that comes out of the ovens at Blooming Lotus is not only gluten-free, but it’s also made with healthier flours and uses only natural sugars. The baked goods still taste equally sinful, especially the blueberry or fig and apricot scones, but really, they’re a toss-up when compared with the bakery’s new cinnamon rolls, which are gooey, cinnamony and perfect to munch on while sipping a cup of their Valentine coffee or Rishi tea. www.blbmke.com

Macarons and Chocolate Croissants, Rocket Baby Bakery:

There are plenty of savory offerings at Rocket Baby, but their sweets are oh-so-good, especially their very French macarons. These light-as-air merengue cookies boast the creamiest of creamy fillings. Equally French and equally good are their croissants, especially the ones filled with chocolatey goodness. www.rocketbabybakery.com

Killer Brownies and Turtle Brownies, Larry’s Market:

OK, so the cheeses get all the attention at Larry’s Market, and for good reason – Larry’s boasts one of the best cheese selections on the planet. But their killer brownies should be a close second to the big cheese. Dense, moist and so perfect, these are the brownies that always get tucked into Larry’s lovers lunch boxes or picnic baskets. If you desire another kind of chocolate, their turtle brownies are pretty killer too. www.larrysmarket.com

Opera Torte and Any of the Tarts, Le Reve Patisserie & Café:

Just gazing at the pastry case at Le Reve transports you to Paris, and it’s hard to choose from among the beauties. But if you’re craving something that has both coffee and chocolate, you have to choose the opera torte. And you can’t go wrong with any – and we do mean any – of the delicate tartlets in the case. Whether you want something lemony, like the citron, or chocolatey, like the chocolate caramel, they’re all good. www.lerevecafe.com
