While You're at Work

Dog Walker

While you’re busy at work, Cream City Critters can swing by and give your pet the attention it needs. With a background as a veterinarian assistant and wildlife rehabilitator and experience with both the Wisconsin and Ozaukee Humane Societies, the owner offers dog walks, cat visits, services for other exotic pets and more for residents living in Riverwest and on the East Side. www.creamcitycritters.com

Doggy Day Care

When the owner’s away, the dogs will play. North Shore Doggy Day Care boasts both indoor and outdoor gymnasiums where your pups can play. Dogs are grouped off into play time by their personalities and sizes to ensure they have fun while staying safe. All employees have medical backgrounds. Plus, the company’s owner, Diane Bernhagen, is a previous medical veterinary technician, so you know your dogs are in good hands. www.northshoredoggydaycare.com

Social Interaction

With several locations throughout southeastern Wisconsin, Central Bark Doggy Day Care offers a full daily schedule to keep your pet on the go, from morning activities — such as ball-fetching, chasing games, tunnel running and more — to individual attention times, a nap time and more afternoon playtime. The system is an alternative to lonely days at home and keeps your pet social and getting attention all day long. www.centralbarkusa.com

In an Emergency

24/7 Pet Emergency Pet Care

When something happens to your pet, it seemingly always happens after vet hours. Luckily, the Wisconsin Veterinary Referral Center offers emergency and specialty pet care 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The three branches, located in Waukesha, Grafton and Racine, specialize in cardiology, internal medicine, pain management, surgery and more to keep your pet happy and healthy any day, any time. www.wvrc.com

Animal Hospital

Located in Wauwatosa, the Mayfair Animal Hospital not only provides primary pet care, from vaccines and dental care to flea and tick preventions, but the facility also accepts pet patients in emergency situations 24 hours a day, seven days per week. Open to take care of your pets on days, nights, weekends and even holidays, Mayfair Animal Hospital’s priority is to immediately reduce your pet’s stress as well as your own. www.mahnorthave.com

Pet Apothecary

Husband and wife duo Jeff and Patti Langer opened Pet Apothecary to fill veterinary prescriptions with medications designed for animals. The prescriptions are made specifically for an individual pet and at the correct dosage, in the desired form, and with the correct flavoring (if needed). The Langers can even make a long list of medications into capsules, a transdermal gel, flavored chew treats or suspensions, or a paste to put on paws to make the process of giving medication easy for you and your pet. www.petapothecary.com

Over the Weekend

Dog Park

Give your dog some space to run at one of Milwaukee’s many fenced-in, off-leash dog parks. Bay View’s Bay View Dog Park offers 1 acre of fenced in space, Wauwatosa’s Currie Dog Park has 10 acres for larger dogs  and 1.5 acres for small dogs, and Milwaukee’s Runway Dog Park offers a whooping 26 acres of fenced-in space for your dog to roam. All the Milwaukee County dog parks are open seven days a week, from 5 a.m. to 10 p.m. See more dog parks and get information on dog park passes at www.mke.dog.

Spoil Your Pet

There’s always a reason to spoil your pet — or so we think. Spend a weekend afternoon visiting Bark and Beg Boutique in Delafield to pick out new toys, treats, collars, food dishes and more for your cats and dogs. Bark and Beg even stocks winter outerwear to keep your dogs warm during those cold Wisconsin winters, dresses and shirts to stylize your pets in the warmer months, and  pet-themed home décor for you to enjoy. www.barkandbegboutique.com

Pet Fest

Mark your calendars for the Friends of HAWS 35th Romp ’n Rally Pet Walk on Saturday, May 5. Bring your pup to Sussex Village Park to explore the trail walk, play games, browse pet product vendors, and more. This year’s event will also include a Romp ’n Rally Reunion to recognize the owners of pets rescued from South Korea and the hurricanes of Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico or transported from California and Alabama. www.hawspets.org/pet-walk-fest

When You're on Vacation

Dog Boarding

Bay View Bark’s Stay & Play Guest House provides your dog a comfortable “guest room,” complete with a raised deck for warmth and an orthopedic bed with cozy fleece. In addition, it offers  daytime activities like group play, a training rotation and rest time with Smart Doggy Day Care to keep your pet busy during the day. Your dogs will also receive meals in their rooms, an evening play session and staff on site throughout the entire night. www.bayviewbark.com

All-Pet Boarding

Accepting a variety of pets, Accommodating PetZ in Greenfield offers boarding services to meet the needs of your pet. With American Kennel Club-certified staff and vet techs on hand, owners will feel comfortable leaving their animals to be treated like family, with small- to large-sized cedar wood suites and personalized attention. The company also offers pet pick up and drop off, curbside assistance, organic grooming and more. www.accommodatingpetz.net

Kennel-Free Boarding

If you’d prefer your pet to have a more home-like environment, While You Were Out Pets provides kennel-free boarding and staff living on site. The home-run boarding system lets pets continue the lifestyle and schedule they’re accustomed to — like sleeping on the bed, laying on the couch and daily walks — but in a different home. A fenced-in yard also allows your dogs to enjoy off-leash outdoor playtime. www.whileyouwereoutpets.com
