Brianna Decker of Dousman is considered one of the top young hockey players in the country.

With three brothers, Dousman’s Brianna Decker isn’t one to let herself get intimidated. That skill is proving valuable as Decker establishes herself as one of the top young hockey players in the country. In January, she was part of the U-18 women’s team that won the world championship.

She attended Dousman Elementary School and Kettle Moraine Middle School and played on hockey teams in Waukesha and Madison. For high school, she headed to Shattuck-St. Mary’s, a top hockey prep school in southern Minnesota.

To make the world championship team, Decker attended two USA Hockey camps and survived a series of cuts. Decker, who just turned 17, was one of the younger players on the final roster.

"She has a knack for scoring," says Team USA Coach Katey Stone. "She gets around the net and she knows what to do. Part of that is her core strength."

Decker says her ultimate goal is to play in the Olympics, probably in 2014 after she’s gotten some college hockey experience under her belt. She might well be playing in more international tournaments, but for now is savoring her first one. "It was perfect to experience this at this age, so I could see what you have to do to play at that level," Decker says.
