It’s a hot year for sports in Milwaukee. And buoyed by the success of the Milwaukee Brewers, the Milwaukee Bucks are ready to shine. With a new general manager and head coach (John Hammond and Scott Skiles, respectively), as well as promising first-round draft pick Joe Alexander and team leader Michael Redd coming off an Olympic gold medal win, hopes are high for the ’08-09 season. Here’s a look at some of the personalities that make up this year’s roster.

Joe Alexander

I started with seafood and now I graduated to steak." Pre-game meal: Chicken breasts and whole wheat pasta. On my iPod: "Nothing. I don’t believe in them." Pre-game music: Classical Favorite movie: "12 Monkeys" World traveler: Joe grew up in China and speaks Mandarin.

Charlie Bell

Position: Guard Age: 29 Years in the league: 4 Year joined the Bucks: 2005 Looking forward to: "Winning. The last couple years have been tough, being at the bottom of the league. I’m looking forward to getting some excitement around the Bucks with the new players, coach and general manager. I want to get a buzz going." Hangouts: Carnevor, Sabor, Buffalo Wild Wings. "You can always go get your wings on." Pre-game meal: "The night before a game, I always eat some Chips Ahoy, but I switched to reduced fat this year because I’m turning 30 in March. I have to keep my "manish" figure. I have to be careful. But I guess 30 is the new 20." On my iPod: LL Cool J, T.I., Lil’Wayne, The Game. "Hip hop before and R&B after." Hobby: "I’m a big video game guy. Mostly Madden. I play online and get my butt kicked. My kids play Wii. My daughter just beat me and she’s 5. I’ve been practicing ever since." Favorite movies: "‘Madagascar.’ It’s always playing in the car for my kids. I can’t always watch it but I can hear it, so I’m quoting it all the time. Now there’s a ‘Madagascar 2’ coming out, and I’m excited. ‘Taladega Nights,’ I love. It’s like the Bible with me. Whenever I feel down I put it in and just laugh."

Richard Jefferson

Position: Forward Age: 28 Years in the league: 7 Year joined the Bucks: 2008 Milwaukee talk: "I got here in the middle of Brewers fever, and it was great to see how the community came out to support the team. That excited me for the upcoming season." Pre-game ritual: "I like to get to the arena extremely early so if there’s anything I feel I need to work on, I can work on that. But, I’m not superstitious or anything." Little-known fact: Jefferson’s parents are Christian missionaries.
