Fischer said the current economic climate makes the development of employee skills within Wisconsin’s large printing industry all the more important.

"In these challenging times, it’s important to make sure that we continue to further programs like this," he said.

The announcement, made Wednesday morning at the Harry V. Quadracci Printing Education and Technology Center at Waukesha County Technical College, came during the week of Gov. Jim Doyle’s Capital for the Day tour of Waukesha County.

In attendance were members of the state’s printing cluster – one of Wisconsin’s largest industries – including Quad/Graphics President and CEO Joel Quadracci and Niall Power, president and CEO of the trade group Printing Industries of Wisconsin.

The Department of Commerce grant, which includes matching funds, will provide a total of $500,100 for training courses during the next two years. The price cut is available to any business located within the state that wishes to send an employee and Wisconsin resident to IGI training programs.
