TOWN OF MERTON - A nearly 5 percent increase in the amount of state aid the Arrowhead School District expects to receive from the Department of Public Instruction will mean a lower projected tax levy - but still a tax rate increase - for the coming school year.

The district’s preliminary 2008-09 budget, approved in April by the school board, included a state aid estimate of $6.08 million, with a projected district tax levy of $18.49 million. A July 1 state aid estimate from the DPI indicates the district may now receive $284,459, or nearly 4.7 percent, more state aid than previously estimated, for a projected total of $6.36 million in estimated state aid, according to a letter from Steve Kopecky, district business manager, to Superintendent Craig Jefson and the district’s finance committee.
