Ice Center evacuated as carbon monoxide level climbs
Gas-powered washers had been used indoors

WEST BEND - West Bend firefighters evacuated the Kettle Moraine Ice Center Sunday after finding high levels of carbon monoxide in the building.

Ice Center employees had been using gas-powered washers inside the building for several hours, said West Bend Fire Battalion Chief Todd Van Langen. The carbon monoxide given off by the washers accumulated in the building until one man inside complained of headaches and nausea, Van Langen said.
