TOWN OF POLK -
No one knew Wednesday night how many people came to H.O.G. Haven at
the Washington County Fair Park to see Lynyrd Skynyrd.
Nancy Justman, fair park executive director, heard
guesses of anywhere from 50,000 to 90,000 in attendance. Washington
County Sheriff's Department Lt. Marty Schulteis said he thought the
turnout wasn't as big as the Boston and Styx concert at the county
fair, which brought in about 40,000.
Whatever the number, the crowd stretched from the
western end of the park to the eastern end, bleeding into the
campgrounds and filling the northern hillside, leather jackets and
denim and paunches as far as the eye could see. Some waved glow
sticks. Others sat on folding chairs atop their RVs, taking pictures
and videos.
