WEST BEND - Tuesday was anything but business
as usual for Dave Kundert in what turned out to be part of 20 arrests of
immigrants in Fond du Lac and West Bend.
At 11 a.m., the Lucky’s Liquor owner said he noticed seven to eight
cars pull up along the curb outside neighboring business King Buffet, 1431
W. Washington St., West Bend, just as the restaurant was about to open.
"They were all unmarked cars, and the regular police were with
them also. They were in there for about 30 or 45 minutes, and then brought
(seven kitchen and waitress employees out). They were cuffed and they put
them in two separate vans," Kundert said.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement Department spokes-woman Gail
Montenegro said that Kam Yu Cheng, 57, of West Bend was taken into custody
for harboring illegal immigrants for financial gain. She is a lawful,
permanent resident from China, according to court records.
