WAUKESHA - Due to a bevy of presidential candidate appearances in Waukesha County the last several days, the county clerk said she is expecting a very high turnout for Tuesday’s primary election.

County Clerk Kathy Nickolaus said she is expecting a 40 percent voter turnout for the primary, compared to a 5 percent turnout on a nonpresidential election year. After a shift in primary dates by many other states, Wisconsin shares Tuesday’s vote only with Hawaii, which is logistically difficult for candidates to visit.

There are also many local primaries, including a few for the reduced Waukesha County Board of Supervisors, and referendum votes set for Tuesday.

Polls will be open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Voter turnout in presidential election years is "way, way higher" than nonpresidential election years, City of Pewaukee Clerk Kelly Tarczewski said.
