WEST BEND - The presidential primary in the
state on Tuesday should draw voters to West Bend’s mayoral contest,
which will be winnowed from three to two as a prelude to April’s
nonpartisan race, City Clerk Barbara Barringer said this morning.
She is preparing for a 40 percent turnout in the city, keeping in mind
the 30 percent figure for the 2000 presidential primary - the last primary
with no presidential incumbent on the ballot.
"We don’t want to run out of ballots," Barringer said.
Incumbent Mayor Kristine Deiss, 60, is facing two challengers: Mike
Christian, 29, an events coordinator for Jeff’s Spirits on Main, and
Chris Jenkins, 18, an associate trainer at Panera Bread Co.
