David Brenner, manager of Prairie Home Cemetery in Waukesha, poses next to the cemetery's Web site during a presentation for a new software program that allows genealogists and others to access burial information from anywhere in the world.

WAUKESHA - Although it is 158 years old, Prairie Home Cemetery is now on the cutting edge of modern technology with the introduction of a program that allows the public to access its extensive burial database online.

The city-owned cemetery partnered with Ramaker Associates, Inc. of Sauk City and Incite Strategic, LLC of Mequon to design a feature for its Web site to look up burials, said David Brenner, cemetery manager.

"The site has an interactive map of the cemetery," he said. "Searches of the database can be done by the person’s name or the owners of the space."

With just a click of a mouse, an armchair genealogist anywhere in the world with Internet access can check for family burials in the Waukesha cemetery.

"Almost on a daily basis, we get phone calls from people asking us to look up burials," Brenner said. "While we do welcome direct inquires, we know that people like to search from the convenience of their own computers, anytime, day or night."
