TOWN OF BROOKFIELD - The plan commission
has rejected a proposal to bring discount grocer Aldi to the town of
Brookfield, but the town board will soon have its say on whether the
company opens a store on Bluemound Road.
At the end of May, the plan commission rejected a proposal to
open an Aldi store in the town, citing concerns with the town’s
image.
Plan commission member Kevin Van Kirk said during the May meeting
he would rather see a Trader Joe’s store open, as others have
indicated to him. He decided to vote against the proposal, saying he
wasn’t sure the store would work well with the image of the town.
Van Kirk was also concerned about the type of businesses that would
be attracted with Aldi being in the area.
Marcia R. Sperber, the director of real estate for Aldi, said the
corporation has regulations in place to ensure quality businesses
surround its stores.
