Aldi still could open 
in town of Brookfield
Board supervisors will make decision; 
plan commissioner cited concerns about image

TOWN OF BROOKFIELD - The plan commission has rejected a proposal to bring discount grocer Aldi to the town of Brookfield, but the town board will soon have its say on whether the company opens a store on Bluemound Road.

At the end of May, the plan commission rejected a proposal to open an Aldi store in the town, citing concerns with the town’s image.

Plan commission member Kevin Van Kirk said during the May meeting he would rather see a Trader Joe’s store open, as others have indicated to him. He decided to vote against the proposal, saying he wasn’t sure the store would work well with the image of the town. Van Kirk was also concerned about the type of businesses that would be attracted with Aldi being in the area.

Marcia R. Sperber, the director of real estate for Aldi, said the corporation has regulations in place to ensure quality businesses surround its stores.
