West Bend saw 12.12 inches of rainfall this month, Dommisse said, beating his old record of 10.4 inches in June 1996. To put that into perspective, Dommisse’s average precipitation for June is 4.02. inches. Last June was much drier, with only 2.68 inches of rainfall.

Dommisse attributed the rain to a jet stream that steered hot, humid air from the Southeast into cooler, Northern air. Almost all of this June’s record-breaking rain fell in the first half of the month, he said: 12 inches in the first half of the month, and only .12 inches in the second half.

Neighboring counties have seen similar amounts of rainfall, said J. J. Wood, meteorologist at the National Weather Service. For June, the NWS measured:

- 12.27 inches in Milwaukee County.

- 10.27 inches in Waukesha County.

- 11.27 inches in Fond du Lac County.

- 11.02 inches in Ozaukee County.

- 8.28 inches in Sheboygan County.

- 11.61 inches in Dodge County.
