Washington County declares 
emergency conditions

WEST BEND - 
The County Board passed a declaration of emergency to advise the state of flooding conditions resulting from torrential weekend rains for which the county may seek state assistance.

Gov. Jim Doyle identified Washington County as one of 30 counties in a state declaration of emergency late Sunday. The county may seek state assistance and ask the state to request federal assistance on its behalf, according to the resolution.

Homeowners should first contact their own insurance providers regarding damage, Emergency Management Coordinator Rob Schmid told the board at its Tuesday meeting. Residents should thoroughly document damage and include photographs in order to apply for state and federal assistance, should it become available, Schmid said.
