Dentist Grant Lemke is reopening a dental assistants school due to a backlog of students waiting for training at area tech schools.

HARTLAND - Fifteen years ago, in response to a lack of adequate training courses for dental assistants, local dentist Grant A. Lemke founded the Professional Dental Assistant Training school out of his Hartland practice.

Eventually, area public vocational schools started offering the training, so after about three years Grant ended his program while students flocked to courses at places like Waukesha County Technical College.

This year, Grant will reopen his school at 510 Hartbrook Drive to address the labor shortage in the dental industry and the impact of this health care shortage in southeastern Wisconsin.

"Now WCTC’s program is filled up, they have a waiting list and it’s time to do it again," Grant said. "We’ve been getting calls from people who say ‘We can’t get in.’"
