Professional poker player Scott Obst, right, speaks to defense attorney Joseph Smith on Wednesday during his hearing at the Waukesha County Courthouse. Obst, who reportedly owes more than $160,000 in back child support and interest, was arrested in Las Vegas and extradited to Waukesha.

WAUKESHA - A professional poker player is seeing the chips falling around him after he was extradited from Las Vegas to face child support charges here.

Scott Obst, 39, was ordered held in lieu of $160,648.41 cash bail - the amount, including interest he allegedly owes the mother of his 17-year-old son. Obst was charged last fall with four counts of failure to pay child support, but first appeared in criminal court Wednesday to face the charges after he was extradited from Las Vegas.

PokerPages.com reported that Obst began playing poker in 2004 and has won more than $41,000 since 2005.

"This is no less of an alleged criminal act than any other case that comes before this court," Court Commissioner Laura Lau told Obst in setting the bail at a figure three times that requested by the state. "What you’ve done is left one parent to provide support for a child and that’s unacceptable."
