WAUKESHA - A town of Waukesha man reportedly told police he
thought he was ramming his truck into a vehicle driven by his father
- and not a stranger on her way to work - in an alleged incident at
about 4 a.m. Wednesday where he reportedly later hid for hours in a
tree and registered a blood-alcohol level nearly three times the
legal limit.
Leonard J. Litt, 30, was charged with first-degree reckless
endangerment and hit and run Friday in Waukesha County Circuit
Court, and was unable to post the $20,000 bail Court Commissioner
Martin Binn imposed in the incident he called "shocking and
appalling." Litt was also given a municipal citation by the
Waukesha Police Department for his first operating while intoxicated
arrest.
According to the criminal complaint, a town of Waukesha woman
left her Merrill Hills Road house at about 4 a.m. to go to work when
she soon noticed in her rearview mirror that a car was traveling at
a high rate of speed toward her. The woman told police that the
driver, who was later allegedly identified as Litt, drove through a
stop sign at an intersection and passed her before coming to an
abrupt stop.
The truck allegedly driven by Litt then began to back up toward
the victim, who in turn drove in reverse in an attempt to create a
distance between herself and the other vehicle, the complaint
stated.
