Erin man commits suicide 
in deputies’ custody
30-year-old was being transported to Winnebago

WEST BEND - A 30-year-old town of Erin man being transported to the Winnebago Mental Health unit in Oshkosh by Washington County Sheriff’s Department deputies committed suicide Thursday, according to Sheriff Dale Schmidt.

The man was taken into protective custody at around 2 a.m. Thursday, Schmidt said, and after consultation with the Washington County Acute Care Services, it was determined the man should be placed at Winnebago. Two deputies were assigned to take him there, Schmidt said.
