Washington County takes juvenile intake away from sheriff
Service reassigned to Human Services Department

The County Board Executive Committee voted Tuesday to re-assign the services from the Sheriff’s Department to the Human Services Department in April.

Washington County is the only county in the state in which the Sheriff’s Department handles intake services for delinquency. The Human Services Department provides intake services for child abuse and neglect cases.

Doug Johnson, administrative coordinator, recommended the change to avoid a proposed increase in the Probate Department budget or cuts to the office, and to bring the juvenile services into the reorganization of the Human Services Department.
