The County Board Executive Committee voted Tuesday to re-assign
the services from the Sheriff’s Department to the Human Services
Department in April.
Washington County is the only county in the state in which the
Sheriff’s Department handles intake services for delinquency. The
Human Services Department provides intake services for child abuse
and neglect cases.
Doug Johnson, administrative coordinator, recommended the change
to avoid a proposed increase in the Probate Department budget or
cuts to the office, and to bring the juvenile services into the
reorganization of the Human Services Department.
