Sarah Hawks helped register 135 new voters last week as part of a
community initiative for La Casa de Esperanza.
The
organization is one of 25 selected for a grant by the National
Council of La Raza to be part of the Latino Empowerment and Advocacy
Project campaign.
Hawks,
a La Casa de Esperanza proposal writer, said the organization’s
goal was to register 400 new voters by the Oct. 15 deadline.
“It’s
going extremely well,” Hawks said, noting that, after a
registration drive at Carroll University on Thursday, the
organization met its goal with 424 new voters registered.
“The
Carroll students worked very hard,” Hawks said. “We’re still
going to keep going. There’s obviously a need.”
While
the initiative is focusing on Latino and youth voters, anyone who
needs to register is welcome to utilize the resource, Hawks said.
