WAUKESHA - Waukesha County school districts will be watching a
new bill coming in January to dissolve Milwaukee Public Schools,
because depending upon how it shakes out, schools here could be hit
dearly by changes.
The bill, which is being promised by state Sen. Ted Kanavas,
R-Brookfield, would cut the state’s largest school district into
eight smaller districts in order to help administrators keep a
closer day-to-day watch on operations. However, if the bill isn’t
worded carefully, Waukesha districts could lose out on both state
aid and Chapter 220 funding.
"It’s hard to say how it could affect us," Waukesha
Superintendent Todd Gray said. "I’m not sure what kind of aid
impact it could have, but by splitting the districts from one to
eight would definitely cause administrative costs to go up there ...
but right now it doesn’t seem that there would be any major
impacts to us."
