Tammy Duckworth speaks Monday afternoon at River Bend Senior Village in West Bend. Duckworth campaigned for Sen. Barack Obama during her visit.

A decorated Iraq war veteran stopped to campaign for Barack Obama at a senior living facility Monday in what could be considered enemy territory.

Tammy Duckworth, director of the Illinois Department of Veterans Affairs who lost both legs in Iraq and partially use of her right arm, is traveling across Wisconsin to drum up support for Obama.

"Barack kind of has Illinois locked up," she said with a laugh about the Illinois senator.

About 50 Obama supporters turned out on short notice to see Duckworth at River Bend Senior Village in West Bend, historically a very conservative area. Duckworth regularly speaks to veterans groups, has testified before U.S. Congress on returning veterans’ medical care and once ran for Congress.
