MEQUON - The family of a Mequon native killed last week for his car is devastated by the senselessness of the crime.

Haroon Khan, 31, was found dead in a shallow grave in Dodge County Saturday, three days after meeting with a Watertown man who wanted to buy his Mitsubishi Evolution

"The thing we didn’t understand is, if you wanted the car, then take it. Show him a gun and push him out of the car or something," said Khan’s brother, Gouhar. "It’s a stupid car."

Based on interviews with the suspect’s friends, Dodge County Sheriff'‘s investigators said they believe Travis Zoellick had set out to steal a Mitsubishi Evolution, or "Evo," in the Chicago area. Zoellick, 20, talked to a friend as recently as 10 days ago about using "zip ties" on the victim or bringing a gun to kill someone, authorities said.

Then, sometime on Oct. 1, Zoellick called that same friend, Zachary Zaborek of Watertown, to tell him he had an Evo and was hiding it on his father’s property in rural Dodge County, according to a criminal complaint filed against Zaborek Monday in Dodge County Circuit Court.
