Fired up in Waukesha
McCain and Palin hear from local citizens

A man who labeled Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama and other Democrats in office as "hooligans" Thursday urged Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and his running mate, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, to understand the anger he and other Americans feel about the state of national affairs.

WAUKESHA - Less than a month until Election Day, Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain and his vice presidential nominee, Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, found a rousing political welcome home away from home Thursday in Waukesha.

Like any other home - this one more than 4,500 loud, proud and aware of the ongoing grave economic and international concerns - McCain and Palin were met with love, anger, excitement and interest at the town hall-style stop at Center Court Sports Complex.

As the candidates introduced their stances and then took up an hour-long question-and-answer segment with citizens, they flew high their links to the area. McCain remarked that he had spent the prior evening talking with former Arrowhead High School football star and current Cleveland Brown Joe Thomas, and gave thanks to another Republican who got the crowd pumped up earlier in the day, former Gov. Tommy Thompson. Pointing to a University of Wisconsin-Madison red "W" logo flag hanging from a window facing the stage, Palin said it reminded her of a logo used all over her hometown of Wasilla, Alaska, where she was mayor.
