WAUKESHA - Home sales in September were roughly even compared with those of a year ago, but a local Realtor said the numbers are likely an anomaly rather than a sign of the market’s recovery.

Sales of existing homes were down just 0.6 percent in Waukesha County last month, and were up 3.1 percent throughout the Milwaukee area, according to data released Friday by Multiple Listing Service Inc.

That’s a positive development, considering Waukesha County home sales have fallen 20.3 percent so far in 2008.

Kevin Woldt, the owner of Select Realty in Pewaukee, said the September performance was largely the result of several Federal Housing Administration loan programs that expired at the end of the month. Many home buyers snatched up the FHA-insured mortgages before they expired, he said.
