Waukesha’s Paul Moll, pictured here in September, visited China last month as part of a group assisting pandas displaced in a earthquake. The stop was part of a trip across many continents for Moll, who often travels to see and help exotic animals.

WAUKESHA - Paul Moll’s passion for exotic animals is so strong that it has taken him to Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, the Galapagos Islands, Tibet, Nepal, and most recently, to China and India.

Moll, 78, saves his money so he can travel to far corners of the world to see certain animals far different than those in his native Waukesha.

On Sept. 19, Moll traveled with his wife, Margaret, and a group of eight to help the pandas taken to Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding after the May 12 earthquake displaced them from their breeding facility in Wolong, China.

"These creatures are very, very friendly and docile," Moll said.

He said the volunteers bathed and fed the pandas.

"We were able to take care of the pandas and relieve the men that came with them," Moll said.
