Members of the Arrowhead Warhawks field hockey team play a scrimmage at Arrowhead High School on Monday. Arrowhead officials said Monday they have agreed to make improvements to resolve a Title IX dispute.

TOWN OF MERTON - More than two years after a Title IX complaint was filed anonymously alleging sexual discrimination at Arrowhead High School, the federal agency investigating the matter has determined planned improvements to the school’s athletic facilities will resolve the issue.

The 2006 complaint alleged that the girls field hockey program was not given equal resources as other boys sports teams, according to a news release from the district Monday. As a result of the complaint, the United States Department of Education’s Office for Civil Rights launched a full-scale investigation of Arrowhead’s athletic program, Superintendent Craig Jefson said.

Planned improvements to the school’s girls field hockey and girls softball fields will resolve the complaint and any concern of inequality, Jefson said Monday.

Title IX refers to legislation that was passed more than 30 years ago banning sex discrimination in schools, whether it be in academics or athletics.
