Symposium to focus on energy issues

MEQUON - Concordia University's Center for Environmental Stewardship, along with We 
Energies, will host a public symposium on energy issues.

The event is free and will be held from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 7. The participants will 
include Representative Jim Ott, who will discuss the science of global warming and the 
environmental impact of the country's energy choices; Representative Phil Montgomery, whose 
district includes two nuclear power plants. He will discuss the politics of nuclear energy in
Wisconsin; John Orth, a nuclear engineer who served on the state's Nuclear Power Review 
Committee, who will discuss the issues surrounding nuclear waste disposal; Charlie Higley, 
executive director of the Citizens Utility Board; and Max Carbon, professor emeritus of the 
University of Wisconsin's College of Engineering and recent author of "Nuclear Power: Villain 
or Victim? Our Misunderstood Source of Electricity."
