Rose Marie’s Hair Designers owner Janet Janik of West Bend will leave her color pallete at her salon and head to the Washington County Fair Park Pavilion on Sept. 18 to stylize 15 models during the 4th Annual Ladies Night Out fashion show.

Janet Janik of West Bend has been in the hair styling and design business for 24 years, yet new challenges overtaking her work on the road are always welcome.

As owner of Rose Marie’s Hair Designers, her talents will soon be in demand. Teaming with a quartet of stylists from her salon, Janik is planning to head out to the Washington County Fair Park Pavilion where 15 runway models will necessitate tresses meticulously styled with two contrasting looks during the Ladies Night Out fashion show, a major highlight of the Sept. 18 event.

"The hairstyles will be up-dos, or partially down, depending on the model and the clothes," said Janik who explained how a hair- style can affect a woman’s outlook, whether she is a model or not.

"A hairstyle or new color can make a woman feel alive and confident. The trends are always changing, so that in itself keeps me busy in staying aware of what is new, but from my standpoint, it’s nice because you want the (model or client) to feel good about themselves. To see that happen and to know they have more self-confidence, to be a part of that transformation is so great."

This being Janik’s second year as fashion show coiffure, the smile on her face Wednesday afternoon reflected last years’ experience of positive mayhem, making it plain as to why she accepted the re-invitation from Ladies Night Out organizers for 2008.

"It was a good time last year, and I’m sure this year will be just as much fun," Janik said in a calm demeanor. This is most likely the same demeanor and focus required for styling 15 quick- paced runway talents on the fly as they model clothing styles for both casual and evening attire. According to Janik, she and the stylist team will not see any of the models or outfits until the night of the event. Each hair style will be different to enhance the model’s faces and correspond best with each clothing ensemble.

"The fashion show is a fun kind of challenge and that’s the best part," said Janik.

"Once (the fashion show) starts, that’s when it gets a little crazy. It’s definitely a good example of organized chaos because the models only have four minutes to change outfits and then we have to do touchups with makeup if (the models) need that, and change the hair style quickly. You have to really stay organized and have a sense of good timing and you just keep working. Sometimes, I find that the best results come from when you might be hurried because you don’t have time to over-think things. In a runway show situation that’s the best way to go."

When the hair gels, curling irons, and hot-rollers are put away in their totes, how might it feel for Janik and her team to see their finished work on the catwalk?

"It’s so gratifying and fun to see the finished look on a model. It’s really a nice feeling to think to yourself, ‘yeah, I did that.’ I’ve been doing this for years and still, there’s nothing like it."
