Downtown lounge scales back plans
Bodway's set to be a restaurant, not nightclub

Tony Bodway Jr. is planning to open a restaurant at 404 W. Main St., directly next to Bodway’s Live Music Studios. Original plans for the restaurant called for it to be a nightclub-type establishment with live music.

WAUKESHA - The plans for Bodway's continue to evolve, and now what once was planned as a lounge and grill will be a restaurant in downtown Waukesha.

Right before the March 25 Waukesha Plan Commission meeting, Tony Bodway Jr. submitted a letter informing the commission that he no longer needed a conditional use permit because his business at 404 W. Main St. would now fall under the ordinance and licensing criteria for a restaurant. Bodway also owns the building at 400 W. Main St., which he bought for Bodway's Live Music Studios.

Bodway declined to discuss his plan for his restaurant for this story.

Dave Kopp, a city planner, said the business plan has changed from a business that would operate like a nightclub lounge to that of a restaurant.

"Like most businesses tend to do, it evolved over time," Kopp said.

In February 2008, Bodway planned to create Bodway's Live Music Grill that would have offered music several times per week. His initial plans were to open it in the summer of 2008.

The business's Web site, www.bodways.com, still makes reference to a 2008 grand opening and even has T-shirts with the name Bodway's Live Music Grill on them for sale on the site.
