School District referendums as they gathered at The Binkery
Tuesday evening in West Bend.

WEST BEND -
Badger Middle School will be remodeled and modernized following
Tuesday’s slim 74-vote victory margin approving the second
referendum question in the West Bend School District.
That authorizes the district to spend $27.4 million to rebuild
most of the school to increase its capacity to 900 students and
assure it complies with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)
requirements.
The complete unofficial district vote for referendum question 2
was 5,971 for and 5,897 against, a 50.3 percent to 49.69 percent
split.
Referendum question 1 was defeated by 685 votes, 6317 against
(52.8 percent) to 5,632 in support (47.1 percent).
"I’m very pleased we got one of these done in one of the
worst economies since World War II," said School Board
President Joe Carlson. "It would have really been disappointing
if both had been defeated."
"It can be considered a positive benchmark" for the
district, said District Superinten-dent Pat Herdrich. "We take
this as a great first step."
But, she said, "we remain challenged (for classroom space)
at the elementary level."
