Mequon taking over water utility Friday
$17 million in borrowing OK'd for project

MEQUON - The city is just days away from operating its own water utility, now that the common council last week approved borrowing $17.125 million for the purchase of the utility.

“We’ll take possession of the water utility May 1,” Mayor Christine Nuernberg said. ”And I think the transition will be seamless because the people who operated the water system under We Energies have been hired by the city to continue operating it. So it’ll be the same excellent manner that was done prior to city ownership.”
