Sen. Ted Kanavas, R-Brookfield

WAUKESHA - A Web page belonging to state Sen. Ted Kanavas, R-Brookfield, until recently indicated he might be running for governor, and it also notes that people happy with leadership in Wisconsin have been brainwashed.

Kanavas said Wednesday he has no interest in running for governor.

Domain registration Web site whois.sc indicates Kanavas’ site, www.tedkanavas.com, was created in February 2001 and has undergone several changes. In 2004, the Web site home page said "Help Ted Grow Wisconsin’s Economy." In 2006, the home page stated "Citizens for Ted Kanavas."

Today, the Web site opens with a screen displaying the question: "Are you happy with our leadership or could they be doing a better job?" Clicking on "Happy" as an answer sends a user to a screen with the following response: "Obviously you’ve been brainwashed. In that case here’s your home page: www.wisgov.state.wi.us." The site then bounces the user out and onto Gov. Jim Doyle’s official state Web site.

The site takes a user through four questions. If the responses are satisfactory, the user may eventually go to the home page of tedkanavas.com. The four questions on the site relate to current leadership, the state Department of Natural Resources, the business climate in the state and public education in Milwaukee.
