Contenders in the Weight Loss Challenge celebrate after they finish their first contest Saturday at Oconomowoc High School. The event, sponsored by Parker’s Place Fitness Center, has drawn 16 challengers weighing a total of 4,570.8 pounds.

OCONOMOWOC - James Foust has been stuck in a cycle of fast food and convenience, but with the help of his family, he has put his foot down.

The 328-pound town of Ixonia man made a potentially life-changing decision by entering the 2009 Weight Loss Challenge at Parker’s Place Fitness Center in Oconomowoc. His 15-year-old son, 385-pound Josh Foust, will be right by his side through every sit-up, pull-up and obstacle course.

"We are really trying to change our lives," James Foust said. "My wife and I are both busy with work, so we usually turn to fast food. Basically we’ve just been pushing the easy button."

The Fousts are two of 16 daring challengers that put down $3,000 each with the hope of winning as much as $25,000 at the end of the six-month challenge. Contestants will compete for a $100 prize every week, similar to "The Biggest Loser" television show. The group weighs a total of 4,571 pounds.
