Brian Dorow has been named The Freemans 2008 Citizen of the Year.

WAUKESHA - As a child, Brian Dorow remembers being captivated by the heroes in TV shows like “Starsky and Hutch,” “Magnum P.I.” and “Batman” - the men and women who always pursued justice and caught the bad guys.

“I remember those shows - the policeman came and saved the day,” Dorow said.

As a Waukesha police officer and currently as the associate dean of the Department of Criminal Justice, Center for Law Enforcement, Homeland Security and Counter-terrorism Initiatives at Waukesha County Technical College, Dorow has gone above and beyond the duty to serve, protect and help the community.

Dorow’s commitment to Waukesha County communities, local and national security and to his family and friends earned him the recognition of being The Freeman’s 2008 Citizen of the Year.

Dorow, 39, grew up as the fourth of seven children in a single-mother household in Greenfield. He said he learned to be independent and to work hard at a young age.

Dorow said his mother, Barb, was the “most incredible mother” who was a strong role model for the family.

“Looking back, I’m grateful for the experiences I had,” he said. “It really intensified me to work harder to be successful.”
