The West Bend Municipal Airport should have its new automated weather observation system installed next month, but new asphalt for one of its runways will have to wait until preliminary engineering work is completed.

This week it was announced that the local airport will receive a combined $237,895 from federal, state and local sources for the two projects.

The Federal Aviation Administration is paying $150,000 for these projects, while the state’s share is $67,947. West Bend will chip in another $19,948.

The upgrade of the automated weather observation system (AWOS) replaces 10-year-old computerized technology that provides pilots with up-to-date local weather information for West Bend , said John Capelle, director of the city’s Department of Community Development.
