County Memorial Park Cemetery in West Bend Wednesday

Besides saluting the flag and presenting arms for
Memorial Day, veterans are increasingly passing on the torch
to younger generations whose views of service are continuing
to be molded.
Washington
County Veterans Services Officer Mark Baldwin II sees it
firsthand as he and son Mark Baldwin III, an
Iraq
war veteran who got out of the Army in 2005, place flags at
graves honoring veterans.
“It’s
like a father-son day,” said the elder Baldwin, a Vietnam
War Army veteran.
In
Washington
County
, the Cemetery Pride program places 4,400 flags at 89
cemeteries with 13 contact volunteers who recruit others.
It’s one of the more visible displays of respecting
veterans and a reminder to the community of their
sacrifices, he said.
“It’s
a blessing that the volunteers do the job they do,” he
said.
