A fox statue sits perched on top of the Moreland Boulevard bridge. There are other fox statues located at the Waukesha Civic Theatre rear exit and at the Waukesha Public Library. Johnson Statuary designed the foxes that are made of cast concrete, are 13 inches by 20 inches in size and were installed from 1994 to 1997.

WAUKESHA - The 10 pieces of art that have been selected for the Waukesha Public Art Walk vary widely in size, material and subject. But, what they all have in common is that they are in downtown Waukesha.

Lisa Peterson, a Waukesha Public Art Committee member, said the art selected for the walk was meant to get people to explore the revitalized downtown and to give them something to enjoy.

“It’s really a great way to celebrate a morning or afternoon,” she said. “And there are things on it, you’re not aware are there.”

The art pieces include life-size bronze bears and a brilliant painted sunflower.

Lisa Smart, another committee member, said the committee decided about one year ago to highlight downtown public art by creating the walking tour.

“It was mostly to get the word out to let people know that there is this public art right in their community and they could take a walk to see it,” she said.
