SLINGER
- The buzz around Slinger Middle School on Friday was more
than just six individuals getting a buzz cut during a Friday
afternoon assembly.
The
students had raised $4,103.93 to benefit the American Cancer
Society in just four days. It was the school’s first
attempt at raising money for ACS, and they shattered the
goal of $3,500 set at the start of the week.
“I
am super proud of our kids,” said Leanne Erickson, sixth
grade teacher and one of the organizers of the event along
with the National Honor Society and student council. “I
was hoping they’d make it to $3,500, and I thought it
would be close. Never did I think it would be over $4,000.
It shows what great kids we have, and the support of the
parents.”
As
an added incentive, SMS Principal Dean Goneau pro-mised
students he would have his head shaved if the students
exceeded the goal. And throughout the week, Goneau
encouraged students to keep raising money through positive
announcements over the school’s sound system.
By
the end of the school day Thursday, the goal was comfortably
met.
