WAUKESHA - The Waukesha School District had to add 12 teachers to its layoff list Friday as its state aid projections remain hazy.

By putting 12 teachers on the layoff list, district leaders said they hope to avoid budget issues in the coming months as the state works through district aid numbers, which are expected to drop.

"We just don’t know right now," Superintendent Todd Gray said Tuesday. "It all depends on what happens with the state revenues."

Gov. Jim Doyle recently announced school and local government revenues will most likely be cut to fight off falling state revenues, caused by a drop in tax revenue.

Although solid numbers haven’t been presented yet, Doyle has suggested that school revenues could be cut by as much as 5 percent.

The state is currently facing a $6.6 billion budget shortfall.
