WAUKESHA - The Waukesha Finance Committee has agreed to borrow $355,000 to finance a Walgreen Co. property tax settlement.

Waukesha Finance Manager Steve Neaman said the committee approved Tuesday night to borrow the money, but it didn’t discuss from where it would borrow the money.

He said the settlement was a large number, but property tax settlements do happen from time to time when a property owner is not happy with his or her assessment.

Waukesha Assessor Paul Klauck said the $355,000 settlement is related to a 2005 Wisconsin Supreme Court case during which the court ruled in favor of Walgreen Co. In that court case, Walgreen Co. made the argument that its properties were not properly assessed by state assessment practices due to the company’s special finance agreements with its buildings’ developer.
