Non-perishable items are not the only option for giving back

WAUKESHA - When most people think of food pantries, they may think only of giving non-perishable food items, but the Food Pantry of Waukesha County is asking people who have extra garden produce to consider donating it.

Executive Director Karen Tredwell said the donated produce helps to meet people’s nutritional needs.

FPWC already distributes more than 29,500 pounds of fresh produce to clients each year, but the staff has initiated a grassroots effort to increase that total by enlisting people to plant an extra row in their garden for people in need.

That effort includes 200 yard signs that volunteers will put in their yards to spread the word on the effort. The signs incorporate the FPWC’s tagline of "End Hunger. Start Here."
